Davis, Professor Steven Sutphen and an itinerant rattlesnake oil peddler named "Rattlesnake Bill" announced that something was to be found in huge quantities in the Berkshires, in particular in Hinsdale. What was it that these men claimed to have found that turned our town virtually upside down for two years? Answer to Trivia Question #1 GOLD! That's right, there was a real gold craze right here in Hinsdale at the turn of the century. The "Alpha Mine" was even built here.
